TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The website change.org has a petition going for comedian Joe Rogan to be a moderator for the 2020 Presidential Debate. The petition is aimed towards the Commission of Presidential Debates to consider Rogan for the position. Over 186,00 people have signed so far and the number continues to grow with each passing second, hoping to gain the attention of the commission.

The petition which was put up on the website in May has been slow going in receiving signatures up until this past week when it became more widely known. Rogan is most often known for being the host of the show Fear Factor which was canceled in 2012. Since then, he has been a host for various television events.
These days he has become known for his podcast entitled “The Joe Rogan Experience” which was started in 2009. By 2010, the podcast was listed in the top 100 podcasts in terms of popularity. The success and his audience have only grown since starting the “experience”. The podcast had over 16 million downloads monthly by 2016.
Rogan not only interviews guests on air, but he also incorporates his comedic style while still being informative on the issues of today. It is these reasons for which a petition was started to get him to moderate for the 2020 Presidential Debate. He has the ability to reach a wider audience of people with a multitude of political views. An excerpt from the petition states:
“Joe Rogan is a widely respected host who has hosted interviews with politicians, economists, scientists, and other popular figures, who come from various walks of life. He has revolutionized the way political interview and discussion works, as he has provided a long-form media format that has allowed the exchange of ideas to be fully explored.”
The petition goes on to reiterate that Rogan is the perfect candidate to be a moderator for the debate. Not only is he experienced, but he also has no political affiliations leaving him to be unbiased in the eyes of the public when it comes to the politicians he would be working with. His popularity is also mentioned to work in favor of more voters tuning in to watch. With a huge following, experience with high profile political interviews, and his ability to maintain professionalism, the petition was born.
While the petition continues to gain momentum, it seems like a long shot for Rogan to become a moderator for the 2020 Presidential Debate. As far as election odds go on this topic, Rogan has odds of -700 when it comes to him not getting the position. His odds of being seen on that political stage are +400. Either way, Rogan’s resume has a public appeal that just may land him consideration by the Commission of Presidential Debates.
