WASHINGTON – Competition to replace Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell is heating up as after candidate John Thune made a major financial contribution to the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NSRC). Thune is the favorite with +120 odds at election betting sites to become the next Senate Republican Leader after Mitch McConnell.

Next Senate Republican Leader Odds

  • John Thune +120
  • Rick Scott +125
  • John Cornyn +450
  • Rand Paul +2200
  • John Barrasso +2500
  • Mike Crapo +2500
  • Steve Daines +2500
  • Tim Scott +2500
  • Tom Cotton +2500
  • Lindsey Graham +3000

The betting favorite Thune transferred $4 million for the GOP’s campaign arm in an effort to cut the Senate Democrats’ fundraising advantage this cycle. It’s the biggest transfer ever by a Senate Republican, breaking the record Thune also set back in 2016 with a $2 million transfer.

The gift will certainly boost his stance among Republican colleagues ahead of a critical leadership election to replace Mitch McConnell. Outside of Thune, Rick Scott (+125) and John Cornyn (+450) are the most likely candidates to replace McConnell as Senate Republican Leader.

Fade Rick Scott’s +125 Odds For Next Senate Republican Leader

The +125 odds for Rick Scott are too short when comparing his financial contributions to Thune. Scott is one of the wealthiest NRSC members and committed to maxing out his future donations, but he has his hands full with his own reelection bid competition as Florida’s senator.

Meanwhile, there are long +2500 US Senate betting odds for Steve Daines to emerge as a dark horse in the race. Daines is the current NRSC Chair and also warned colleagues about the fundraising battle with Senate Democrats, which Thune capitalized on.
